IMMEDIATE Press Release: Haitian Flag Day CALIFORNIA
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA – May 12, 2015
In celebration of Haitian Heritage Month and Haitian Flag Day, SakPase California and the Haitian Community of Los Angeles invite you to join us in celebrating the 2015 Annual Haitian Flag Day Celebration on May 16, 2015, to be held at Friendship Auditorium in Los Angeles, California at 7pm. Haitian Flag Day is a major national holiday celebrated by Haitians both in Haiti and the diaspora throughout the world with much fanfare. We at Sak Pase California and the Haitian Community of Los Angeles share this 215th celebration of a symbol of pride, unity and individual liberty.
The first purely Haitian flag was adopted on May 18, 1803, on the last day of the Congress of Arcahaie, about fifty miles north of Port-au-Prince. Haitian lore holds that the newly appointed revolutionary leader Jean-Jacques Dessalines created the flag by taking a French tricolor and ripping out the white center, which he discarded. He then asked Catherine Flon, his god-daughter, to sew the remaining bands together.
This event that features musical performances from music stars Paul Beaubrun of the Zing Experience, Stanley Toussaint aka Tan Tan and songstress Sherlee Skai. In addition, there will be cultural dance performances, poetry, Haitian food and much more.
A Meet & Greet will be held at TiGeorges Kafe located at 309 Glendale Blvd Los Angeles, California Friday May the 15th at 7:00 PM Pacific Time.
We invite the public in general to be our honored guests especially those in southern California and the media to come and celebrate with us and experience a true piece of the vibrant Haitian Culture right here in Los Angeles California.
